Navratri the festival of the Mother Goddess
of Mercy, Grace, and Compassion
Navaratri or navratri, which literally means “Nine Nights”, is a holiday dedicated to the worship of Devi or Śhakti, the divine Mother, the feminine expression of God and looks to her for spiritual cleansing, guidance, and enlightenment.
Navaratri is celebrated with great devotion all over India and the rest of the world.
It is known, especially in northern India, also as Durgotsava, the festival of Durga, in which the nine forms of Durga, the one who is difficult to conquer, are venerated.
In the sacred scriptures, particularly in the Puranas and in the Dharma-Shastras, two Navaratri are mentioned: the Vasantanavaratri and the Sharanganavaratri, respectively a spring Navarati and an autumn Navaratri.
In fact, the former is not widely practiced and has given way to the autumn one which has a large following. The festivities begin with the arrival of the New Moon of the lunar month of Ashvina (September - October) and last for nine days.
During Navaratri various rituals are performed, with song and dance and there will be 9 fire ceremonies (puja) dedicated to each of the form of the Mother. Customs and traditions vary greatly and are observed to create a space of pure beauty through the colours of India.
This year we will celebrate Navaratri in the new Holy Land PUGLIA at the Shivananda Ashram.

The ashram center is located on 185 acres in the beautiful mountains and ancient forest in Puglia, southern Italy.

TRAVELING TO THE ASHRAM:
First fly into Rome Fiumicino International Airport (FCO). Then take a scenic 3 hour high speed train from Rome to Foggia station, which is about 1 hour drive from the Ashram.

Then transfer from Foggia station with driver to the Ashram. The ashram has a shuttle that will pick you up and take you back at 25 Euros each way, per person, cash only.
